What Medical Procedures Are Performed Abroad?

There is a vast array of medical procedures performed in foreign countries.  Some of the most common surgical procedures are knee/hip replacements, heart bypass surgery, heart valve replacement, angioplasty, hysterectomy surgery and many cosmetic procedures such as breast implant surgery, liposuction, facelifts and rhinoplasty.  Each of these procedures will be explained in greater detail below.

     Knee/Hip Replacement Vacations: Usually due to arthritis, injured ligaments and/or cartilage, or chronic medical conditions.  Ultimately the hip or knee joint is replaced with a prosthetic and most people have a recovery success rate of 90-100%.

     Heart Bypass Surgery Vacations: This is a type of heart surgery that “bypasses” or reroutes blood around clogged arteries to improve blood flow and oxygen to the heart muscle

     Heart Valve Replacement Abroad:  The heart’s valves are not working to their full potential, so the surgeon removes the injured or weak valve and replaces it with a prosthetic valve that is sewn onto the existing tissue and will work exactly as the original valve.

     Angioplasty while on Vacation:  This procedure widens completely or partially obstructed blood vessels by inflating balloons to help the blood flow better. 

     Hysterectomy surgical vacations: This is a major medical procedure to remove a woman’s entire uterus.   It is done to prevent problems associalted with periods, pelvic pain, tumors, and other conditions.

     Breast Augmentation in a beautiful location:  This is a cosmetic procedure which increases the size of a woman’s breasts by inserting a prosthesis under the chest either made of saline or silicone.

     Liposuction:  Is the removal of fat deposits from underneath the skin using a steel tube called a canula and vaccum to suck out the fat. 

     Facelifts: This procedure is basically the stretching and removal of excess skin on the face and neck to give the appearance of a smoother and more youthful look.

      Rhinoplasty: This procedure is perfect for a medical surgery vacation as it is very simple and non-invasive.  It is the reshaping of the nose “nosejob” to improve the appearance and function of the nose. 

        There are many other medical surgery vacation procedures but only a few are listed above.  Certain countries perform certain procedures so you have to definitely do your research before agreeing to anything.
